The IMA maintains a Permanent Collection, Study Collection and Lilly House Collection. These collections are continuously evaluated to identify areas to strengthen and to ensure works acquired are consistent with the mission of the Museum and guided by the plans of the appropriate curatorial department.&lt;/p&gt;

The number of hours spent by a team of 13 IMA conservators examining art for acquisitions, surveys, loans out, loans in and pre-treatments in 2009.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;EXPLANATION&lt;br /&gt;
Examinations are vital for the longevity and conservation of work of arts. Each reason for examination is explained in depth below:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Acquisition: Works being considered for purchase or acceptance as gifts are examined to determine their condition and overall stability. Damage, restorations and infestation problems are noted and in some cases the authenticity of a work is confirmed.&lt;/p&gt;
